Hi! I'm Michelle, a Canadian national who made her way to Silicon Valley to make her break into tech a reality. My journey onto the tech scene was nonconventional. Many years ago, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. I went on to complete a CPA and worked in various accounting roles. I always felt like I was more interested in working on projects that would directly impact customers or improve operations within the company. I started coding on my own and fell in love with it. I decided to formalize my computer science education. I was admitted to the Align program at Northeastern which is meant to bridge the gap for those that don't have a background in computer science. I successfully finished the bridging program and completed a Master's in Computer Science. During my time in school, I got a real taste of what it was like working in the industry when I worked as a Web Development Intern at Seagate Technology. I'm excited to embark on the next step in my journey. I'm searching for a career opportunity where I can continue learning and growing.
Designed a social media platform for dog owners to connect through meetups. Implemented registration and login authentication with form validation, the ability to add dog profiles and events, an events list with RSVP options, and a Google Maps API to display event locations.

Developed an Android fitness game that sent notifications to users about fictional scenarios that they had to physically walk to escape from; utilized the phone’s accelerometer to measure steps and Firebase to track user information and manage a friends list.

Created a single-page web search platform that allows users to query for Reddit data based on a combination of search facets. It improves upon Reddit search results by providing an expanded search bar and phrase querying.

Assisted for the Computer Science Align bridging courses object-oriented design, computer systems, and algorithms as well as Master's courses includng information retrieval. Reinforced concepts presented by the professor in lecture by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups. Provided grading assistance to the professor for assignments. Answered questions about projects and assignments in class, during office hours, and via online forums.
Successfully converted Oracle SQL to PostgreSQL and ColdFusion to Node.js and Javascript code while improving the efficiency of dynamic database queries and redesigning the backend code to ensure a RESTful API design for integration purposes. Contributed to the API restructuring document by outlining the goals of the project, hierarchy of the existing structure, and overview of the components and current conversion progress. Participated in Agile (Scrum) processes including daily standup meetings and creation and completion of stories on a Kanban board.
Became a first point of contact to incoming ALIGN students for issues regarding academics, campus life, and administrative issues. Determined if students needed extra assistance and escalated cases as necessary to program directors.
Served as a liaison between classmates, prospective ALIGN students, and the CCIS Administration. Planned social events, maintained a visible presence on campus, and held private meetings for students with concerns. Aided the College in recruiting efforts and represented the College and program to potential students.
Established the process flow for accounts receivable and created master data fields for upload into SAP for first time migration from NetSuite. Administrator of the Expensify reporting system and related credit card accruals at month end.
Coordinated all billing and revenue recognition processes including review of invoices provided by Customer Service Managers, upload into Oracle, and related journal entries. Leader of the US month end close process including preparation of journal entries and supporting workpapers for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, etc.
Supervised month end close and reviewed journal entries involving revenue and intercompany billings of development costs, labor rates and machine rentals. Managed operational cash flow by forecasting cash balances of 15 accounts totaling more than $30M.

Prepared the quarterly financial statements and supporting reporting package of limited partnership entity RioCan Management Inc. Projected management fees and general and administrative fees owed from the property portfolio as part of the annual budgeting process. Acted as the departmental bridge between corporate accounting and the software implementation team to validate data generated from the new system in JD Edwards 9.
Partnered with internal stakeholders to document operating processes, evaluated compliance with SOX, and communicated recommendations to process owners on how to improve procedures and understanding of internal audit requirements. Liaised with the Vehicle Sales and Service Marketing team to understand new promotions and their finance and accounting impact, and provided advice on the nature of transactions.
